God of mystery, God of wonder and love, God of resurrection and new life; last night we wept, because we thought you were dead. This morning, like Mary in the garden, we mistake you for someone else, and ask where you have gone. But you have wakened us with sunshine, opening our eyes to daffodils and cherry blossoms, filling our ears with birdsong, filling our hearts with joy. For you are not dead, but risen, and live among us now. Christ is risen! Christ is risen, indeed! Alleluia! Amen.

The remainder will be transferred to church funds later in the year after it is used to buy supplies for the Folk Festival. With the help of the Emergency Aid Fund, we provided a free dinner to 74 people from the community.

CONFIRMATION CLASSES

We are in the process of forming a confirmation class. If your child is in sixth grade, 12 years of age, or has not been through confirmation classes before, please consider enrolling him or her. Confirmation is the step in which your child “confirms the work” that God began in him or her when they were baptized. Classes will be held on Sunday afternoons from 2:00-4:00 PM on April 23, 30 and May 21st. Contact Pastor Wade or the Church office to enroll your child.

Acoustic Jams will begin again on Wednesday April 19th. We will meet the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM in the Covenant Center. For more information, see Tom Scherf.

SERMON SERIES

What would lead a first century rabbi to travel for thousands of miles by sea and by land, to be beaten, imprisoned, and ultimately beheaded for his faith? It was a call—a call to turn the world upside down.

This is the story of the Apostle Paul, whose writings have shaped the lives of one-third of the world’s population, a man second only to Jesus in his influence on Christian faith, and whose witness defines what it means to follow Christ. Join us as we begin a new sermon series entitled The Call. Each week we will share in Paul’s ministry and connect it to the call that Jesus Christ has placed upon our lives.

● Sunday, April 23 – Called to Follow Christ

● Sunday, April 30 – Called to Go

● Sunday, May 7 – Called to Suffer

● Sunday, May 14 – Called to Love

● Sunday, May 21 – Called to Give

● Sunday, May 28 – Called to Be Faithful

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL 2017

June 19-23, 9:00-noon—Ages 3 years thru 6th grade

Mark your calendars and get ready to join us for a Thrill Ride with Jesus. The church area will be transformed into a SonWorld Adventure Park and we’ll learn how we can follow, trust and obey Jesus thru lessons from the New Testament. Last year we had nearly 120 children for VBS and expect the same or more this year so we need a lot of help to prepare for this fun-filled week. Please consider how you are able to help and contact Sue Hankey (724-545-1656) or the church office if you have any questions.

●         Work Day (Paint/cut/assemble props and scenery) – Covenant Center

April 29th 9-?

●         Memorial Day Parade – May 29 – we’ll have and entry for advertising

we’ll need people to help prepare and to walk with us

●         Crew leaders for all ages (week of VBS).

Watch for more details in the following weeks.

APRIL MISSIONS FOCUS

Our April missions will focus on providing the basics for foster children in our area. We will collect socks and underwear for toddlers and children through grade 6. These basics will help a newer local ministry, Blessings Foster Care Ministry, Inc. in W. Penna. Do you know that there are 15,000 foster children in Pennsylvania? Do you know that very often a foster child is taken to a foster family late at night, with just the clothes on their body? Our basic contributions will help these children. May we grow in awareness and compassion.

APRIL SIFT LUNCHEON

April SIFT luncheon will be held on Thursday, April 20th at 12:00 PM. The menu will be Hamloaf, Scalloped potatoes, Corn or Greenbeans, Italian bread, Cakes. The program will be Phyllis Howard, harpist. Reservations are due by Monday, April 17th.
